The history of British cider can be traced back to ancient times, when the Romans introduced apples to the country. The Celts are thought to have been making cider as early as 3000 B.C., as evidenced by pottery. The first recorded mention of cider in Britain was by Julius Caesar in 55 B.C., when he observed the Celts fermenting crabapples.
